Date taken (when hover) is different from properties

When I hover over a picture the info that displays shows a different date taken then when I look at the properties of the picture (but not all of my pictures are this way). Is this a known problem?

The date shown in
Properties is usually the date when the picture was copied to the PC. The
date taken is the actual date/time when the photo was taken with the camera and is stored as part of the photo (in what is called EXIF data).

The 2 fields I look at both state "Date Taken" and they are different from each other.

I assumed that you were using V to display the
Properties, but since V does not display a
Date Taken in the File Properties, you must be using another program.
Exactly how are you displaying the other Date Taken?
Are the two dates totally different or are they always out by the same amount?
