Upgrade Policy

Users are be entitled to free upgrades to all versions that are released within 6 years of registering.

Users will need to pay an upgrade fee to use any version that is released after 6 years of registering (see example in FAQ below). The upgrade fee is the same as the current registration fee - less 15% (ie, $17 for a single user license).

An upgraded license entitles the user to a further 6 years of free upgrades.

Upgrade FAQs

Q. I have just paid good money for V. Will I have to pay again to keep using it in the future?

A. No. No. No! You will never have to pay again to continue using the version you purchased.

You are also entitled to free upgrades for 6 years. However, you will need to pay if you want to upgrade to any version that is released after 6 years.

Q. How much will the upgrade cost?

A. The cost of the upgrade is exactly the same as the current new registration price LESS 15%. That is, $17 for a single user license.

Once you have upgraded, you are entitled to free upgrades for a further 6 years. Therefore, the total cost of using the latest version of V over 12 years is $37.

Q. What if I have a site or OEM license?

A. The upgrade cost is the same as the original purchase price LESS 15%. The only exception is for Unlimited Site Licenses where a 50% discount applies.

Q. I registered on July 4, 2000. It is now August 15, 2006. Do I have to pay to upgrade to the latest version which was released on May 17, 2006?

A. No. You are entitled to a free upgrade because the version you are upgrading to was released within 6 years of registering. The fact that you are upgrading after 6 years does not matter - it is the release date of the version you are upgrading to that counts.

Q. I purchased V in 1997. Why does my About Box say that my free upgrades expire in 2005?

A.The new Upgrade Policy began on September 1, 2005.

Q. How can I find out when I registered?

A. As from Version 7.2, the date is displayed in the About Box.

Q. I purchased V in 1997. If I upgrade in 2006, when will my free upgrades expire?

They will expire in 2012. That is, 6 years from upgrading and not 12 years from first registering.

Q. I purchased V in 2000. If I upgrade in 2005 (instead of 2006), when will my free upgrades expire?

They will expire in 2012. That is, 12 years from first registering and not 6 years from upgrading.

Q. I purchased V in 2000. If I upgrade in 2008 (instead of 2006), when will my free upgrades expire?

They will expire in 2014. That is, 6 years from upgrading instead of 12 years from first registering.
