replacing (ms) explorer

Hello -- a similar app to fileviewer, powerdesk from vcom.com has an option to "replace" the system explorer (explorer.exe) with powerdesk, so whenever you click on an icon that would normally run explorer.exe powerdesk run in its place

has there been a suggestion to add such an option to fileviewer?

explorer.exe is much more than just a file manager - it handles many other Windows functions (like the Desktop). Just use the Task Manager to kill explorer.exe and see what happens!

This will never be an option in V. Any method of replacing explorer.exe is a hack and is fraught with danger.

Thanks for the info and insight --- I am not sure how powerdesk does this -- if its a hack by changing explorer.exe with something else
but if a registry setting. would the change then be ok?

I am sure there is more involved than just changing a registry entry. There is no Microsoft approved method of replacing explorer.exe

Back in the days of Windows 95 it would have been much easier to produce a reliable hack to replace explorer.exe - but this is no longer the case with Windows 7 (and probably even XP).

Replacing explorer.exe is asking for trouble and will no doubt result in an unstable Windows system.

Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
